Hip Anatomy in Femoral Acetabular Impingement
نویسنده
چکیده
The acetabular cartilage complex is interposed between Figure 1: Hip Growth the ilium, ischium, and the pubis. This complex is composed of epiphyseal growth-plate cartilage adjacent to these bones and articular cartilage around the acetabular cavity. Interstitial growth of the triradiate cartilage leads to expansion and enlargement of the acetabulum (25). Development of the acetabulum and femoral head depends on a located femoral head exerting appropriately directed forces on the acetabulum. Thus the normal development of the hip requires a balanced interaction between the growth of the acetabulum and the femoral head (12). The depth and spherical shape of the acetabular development is based on this relationship (12,21,25,37). Soft tissue structures about the hip joint also play an important role in providing joint stability during development of the hip joint. The acetabular labrum contributes from one-fifth to one-half of the socket depth at birth and plays a significant role in the containing the femoral head at birth (37). Disturbances leading to instability result in a spectrum of anatomical variations found in developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Background and Objective: Arthrosis of the hip joint is one of the most common complications of patients and many efforts have been made to find its etiology. One of the subjects important for researchers is morphologic parameters of the hip joint and its relationship with osteoarthritis of this joint. Since these parameters themselves are affected by physical parameters of the body and the rac...
متن کاملOptimal acetabular component orientation estimated using edge-loading and impingement risk in patients with metal-on-metal hip resurfacing arthroplasty.
Edge-loading in patients with metal-on-metal resurfaced hips can cause high serum metal ion levels, the development of soft-tissue reactions local to the joint called pseudotumours and ultimately, failure of the implant. Primary edge-loading is where contact between the femoral and acetabular components occurs at the edge/rim of the acetabular component whereas impingement of the femoral neck o...
متن کاملFactors affecting bony impingement in hip arthroplasty.
Computer modeling of 10 patients' computed tomographic scans was used to study the variables affecting hip arthroplasty range of motion before bony impingement (ROMBI) including acetabular offset and height, femoral offset, height and anteversion, and osteophyte removal. The ROMBI was compared with the ROM before component impingement and the native hip ROM. The ROMBI decreased with decreased t...
متن کاملPrevalence of radiographic parameters predisposing to femoroacetabular impingement in young asymptomatic Chinese and white subjects.
BACKGROUND Osteoarthritis of the hip is five to ten times more common in white people than in Chinese people. Little is known about the true prevalence of femoroacetabular impingement or its role in the development of osteoarthritis in the Chinese population. A cross-sectional study of both white and Chinese asymptomatic individuals was conducted to compare the prevalences of radiographic featu...
متن کامل“In-Round” Labral Repair After Acetabular Recession Using Intermittent Traction
The prevalence of hip arthroscopy has increased exponentially with the advent of arthroscopic labral repair techniques for femoroacetabular impingement. The goal of arthroscopic labral repair is to re-create the anatomic suction seal of the labrum against the femoral head. This important anatomic relationship has been demonstrated in several biomechanical studies. Performing the acetabular rece...
